Would you like to cycle around Geiranger in comfort? Tackle the up hills to get the stunning views while staying relaxed? Geirangers renowned breathtaking scenery provides the perfect backdrop for some of the most outstanding biking to be had in Norway. We offer e-bike hire of top quality electric mountain and city bikes right in the center of Geiranger. From there you can pedal along the fjord or to one of the famous viewpoints in the mountains, like Eagle Bend or Flydalsjuvet. Do not worry about the ascent - going uphill with an electric bike is exercise without exhaustion!

We recommend to book online in advance. For the pick up please get in touch with our staff at the ticket counter in the tourist information in Geiranger on the day of your bike ride.

Safety note: The roads around Geiranger are often narrow with sharp bends and hairpins. In addition, the vehicle traffic can be heavy at times, especially during the high season from the middle of June to the middle of August. Be aware of other road users and take care.

Bicycle models and Conditions of Hire

 

We rent out:

We use high quality electric bikes. They have 8 gears and 5 settings for the pedal assistance:

  • Off –  without pedal assistance, just like a normal bike
  • Eco –  30% more power than you put in
  • Tour – medium battery power
  • Sport – medium battery power
  • Turbo  – maximum pedal assistance (=going up the steepest hills with a smile in your face!)                                                      

 

Conditions of Hire e-bike

  • A helmet will be provided for every customer. If you choose to decline the helmet you will be deemed to have accepted full responsibility for this decision.
  • The bike and all accessories must be returned in the same condition they were rented out. If misused, Geiranger Fjordservice AS will be entitled to charge the client for any damages caused.
  • The electric bike must not be used when the cyclist is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • By law anyone riding an electric bike must be over 14 years old.
  • Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

 

Insurance

  • We recommend taking out adequate insurance including loss of belongings, cancellation cover, medical cover and personal accident.
  • Geiranger Fjordservice AS has public liability insurance, but you remain liable for any damage or theft of the bike and all accessories. A passport or photocard driving licence is required as proof of identity plus your credit/debit card details.
  • In the event of the bike or any accessories being stolen or lost Geiranger Fjordservice AS reserves the right to be reimbursed by the client for the replacement price.
  • To prevent theft, all of our bikes come with a standard safety lock which must be used whenever you leave the bike unattended.

 

Cycling itineraries

 

Short trips

  • 4 km: Geiranger – Homlong – Geiranger (flat, partly gravel road)
  • 4 km: Geiranger – Grande – Geiranger (flat, along the main road)

 

Medium trips

  • 10 km: Geiranger – Flydalsjuvet – Geiranger (9% ascent with few flat parts, hairpin curves, highest point 300 m)
  • 14 km: Geiranger – Eagle Bend – Geiranger (flat the first 2 km from Geiranger to Grande, then 10% ascent, hairpin curves, highest point 620 m)
  • 42 km: Geiranger – Dalsnibba – Geiranger (steep route with two flat parts, hairpin curves, cycling past the viewpoint Flydalsjuvet and lake Djupvatnet up to the top of Mt. Dalsnibba, highest point 1500 m)

 

Long trips

  • 44 km: Geiranger – Kilsti – Geiranger (a steep climb up with hairpin curves to the viewpoint Eagle Bend followed by a gentle downward slope towards Eidsdal, turn off for Kilsti 2 km before Eidsdal)
  • 78 km: Geiranger – Grotli – Geiranger (steep route up to lake Djupvatnet on the RV63, then flat road towards Strynefjell and Grotli)

 

Bus/bicycle combinations

  • With the Fjord1 public bus at 9.30 a.m. from Geiranger to the viewpoint Eagle Bend (arrival time 10.00 a.m.), continue by bike to Kilsti (see above) and cycle back to Geiranger, alternatively cycle from Kilsti to Eidsdal and take the bus back to Geiranger at 11.20 a.m.
  • With the public bus from Geiranger to Langvatnet, cycle to Grotli and back to Langvatnet, choose between taking the bus back or cycling back to Geiranger
  • With the ferry from Geiranger to Hellesylt, cycle along the postal road to Stranda, by bike or by bus back to Hellesylt to the ferry to Geiranger
  • With the ferry from Geiranger to Hellesylt, cycle into the beautiful Norangsdal valley, continue to Villa Norangdal or Hotel Union Øye, cycle back to Hellesylt and return to Geiranger by ferry
